Psychotherapy Clients
Individual Psychotherapy is designed for clients pursuing treatment for diagnosable mental health conditions. Indicators that psychotherapy is appropriate for you include a previous or existing mental health diagnosis, current psychotropic medication, and/or hospitalization.
Psychotherapy sessions are $200 (50 minutes).
Counseling Clients
Counseling represents a healing and change process that is not contingent on diagnosis. This aspect of my practice integrates my experience as a clinical psychotherapist along with coaching techniques. Because counseling services are not billed to insurance, they ensure a higher level of confidentiality, free from insurance company inquiries for treatment notes.
Counseling sessions can be conducted in-person or remotely for clients residing outside of Maine. Please reach out for further information.
Counseling sessions are $200 (50 minutes).
Payment
Appleyard Counseling is an out-of-network provider. If you would like to request reimbursement from your insurance company, we can provide an invoice for you to submit directly to your insurance company. Payment is due at the time the service is provided. Visa and MasterCard, cash, HSA, and personal checks are accepted.
We look forward to discussing your mental health needs and how we can support you on your journey. When contacting your insurance company, it’s important to ask specific questions to ensure you understand your benefits and coverage for mental health services.
Questions to ask your insurance company about your mental health coverage:
What mental health services are covered? Confirm if individual and couples counseling, Ketamine Assisted Therapy, or EMDR therapy are included.
What is my deductible? Understand how much you will need to pay out-of-pocket before insurance starts covering services.
What is my copay or coinsurance rate? Determine your share of costs for each therapy session.
Is there a limit on the number of sessions? Some plans have restrictions on the number of sessions covered annually.
Do you require pre-authorization? Check if you need to obtain approval from your insurance before beginning therapy.
What is your out-of-network policy? If you are seeing a provider not in your network, understand the reimbursement process.
There are a few sliding-fee scale spots in my practice and requests are evaluated based on income and availability.
Billing Procedures
To submit claims, including superbills, follow these steps:
Obtain your superbill: After your counseling session, a superbill will be provided. This document will include all relevant details such as your session dates, services rendered, and payment information.
Contact your insurance company: Reach out to your insurance provider to confirm their process for submitting claims. They may have specific forms or requirements that need to be followed.
Submit the superbill: Send the superbill to your insurance company. This can often be done online through their member portal, by mail, or via fax. Make sure to keep a copy for your records.
Follow up: After submitting, follow up with your insurance company to ensure that your claim has been received and is being processed. This may take a few weeks.
Keep records: Maintain a detailed record of all communication and submissions in case you need to reference them later.
For any questions during this process, please feel free to reach out to our office for assistance.
Good Faith Estimate
What is a “Good Faith Estimate” (GFE)?
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” (GFE), which is an estimate for the total cost of non-emergency medical services. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who do not have insurance, or who are not using insurance, an estimate of the total bill. The Good Faith Estimate will be provided to you with our initial intake paperwork. For more information, you can visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059. It is not always possible in the field of psychotherapy to give an exact cost of treatment, given the ongoing nature of the work. That being said, we will inform you of the expected cost for the initial phase of treatment, and if additional treatment is recommended, we will provide an updated estimate for you.
